Scandal Erupts Around 'Hospitallers' Medical Battalion

According to Главком: A public controversy involving the volunteer 'Hospitallers' medical battalion began when former volunteer Rina Smolnikova made accusations on social media. The unit's commander, Yana Zinkevich, stated that the core of the conflict was Smolnikova's exposure for using hallucinogenic mushrooms during a rotation in Bakhmut. This led to the battalion's refusal to hand over its equipment to her, as such conduct is deemed unacceptable.

Statement from Commander Yana Zinkevich

Yana Zinkevich, a member of parliament from the 'European Solidarity' party, commented on the situation, stressing that the use of any prohibited substances during military rotations is intolerable. She stated:

“This individual, who was in our battalion, was exposed for using hallucinogenic mushrooms during a rotation in Bakhmut. For us, this is absolutely unacceptable and for me personally, because I am against the use of any substances on rotations.” - Yana Zinkevich

Furthermore, Zinkevich called on anyone with questions regarding the transparency of the battalion's funding to contact law enforcement agencies. She noted, 'If we're talking about public discussion and what all the online investigators on Twitter have concluded, about the mass concealment of some profits... If there is something to accuse us of, please go to the law enforcement agencies, let those bodies investigate and do their proper job.'

The situation around the 'Hospitallers' has caused concern, as the battalion found itself at the center of a scandal following accusations of non-transparent use of funds from public donations. Yana Zinkevich also reported that she is preparing financial reports and plans to hold a briefing to clarify the situation and restore trust in the organization.

This incident underscores the critical importance of ethics and transparency in the operations of volunteer organizations, especially under wartime conditions. The 'Hospitallers' are a well-known Ukrainian volunteer unit that provides frontline medical evacuation and care. With increasing scrutiny on charitable and medical units, maintaining public trust and financial openness has become paramount. Further investigations could impact the reputation of the 'Hospitallers' and their ability to garner future support.
