More than 29 thousand servicemen returned to service: how the simplified mechanism works

According to glavcom.ua: From November 29, 2024, to August 2025, more than 29 thousand servicemen returned to service through a simplified mechanism that allows those who have left for the first time to return to their military unit. This was reported by the director of the State Bureau of Investigation, Alexey Sukhachev.

This mechanism provides servicemen who have illegally left their military unit the opportunity to return to service in a simplified manner with the restoration of benefits and the possibility of exemption from criminal liability by court decision.

In 8 months, the most servicemen returned to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as to the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service.

In May 2025, a law was signed that extended the operation of the simplified mechanism for the return of servicemen who have deserted. Currently, the deadline for voluntary return under this mechanism is August 30, 2025.

The initiative of the simplified mechanism for the return of servicemen who have deserted allows for a reduction in such cases and supports the Ukrainian army by attracting additional personnel. Expanding this opportunity is an important step in supporting military units and ensuring their operational readiness.
