Slovakia Rejects US 'Peace Council' Invitation

According to Главком: Slovakia has formally declined an invitation to join a proposed 'Peace Council' initiated by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that the country's primary foreign policy focus is securing a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028–2029 term, a major government priority.

Slovakia has a tremendous interest in becoming a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2028–2029. During all our visits, we ask our partners to support our membership in the Security Council.

This decision highlights Slovakia's strategic objectives in international politics. Furthermore, the Prime Minister noted that the government has no intention of spending funds to join a new institution. He emphasized:

The government of the Slovak Republic will never spend any membership fees to join such an institution. If there is an idea-about which we also know very little so far-that some billion euros or a billion dollars needs to be paid, I say in advance: no. It is simply impossible.

He also stated that Slovakia respectfully declines the invitation to the Peace Council. The Prime Minister believes this choice underscores Slovakia's commitment to concentrating on other significant international goals. The proposed council, a concept from Trump's previous term, has not been formally re-established since he left office.

Impact of the Refusal on International Relations

Slovakia's refusal to participate in the U.S. Peace Council demonstrates its drive to focus on more strategic objectives, such as UN Security Council membership. This decision could influence Slovakia's relations with other nations and international organizations as the country seeks to elevate its standing on the global stage.

By concentrating on its own priorities, the Slovak government underscores the importance of international support in achieving its ambitions.
