Sloviansk again sends trolleybuses for evacuation
In Sloviansk from March 3, trolleybus transport will be suspended and the contact network will be dismantled. This decision was made to establish anti-drone protection on the roads in the city. This was reported by the head of Sloviansk's city military administration, Vadym Liach.
Vadym Liach, the head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration, stated that the equipment and trolleybuses are being temporarily evacuated to protect them from potential damage.
Trolleybuses in Sloviansk: why the contact network is being dismantled
According to Vadym Liach, the dismantling of the network is necessary for the installation of special anti-drone structures that are intended to enhance the city's security.
The official noted:
«Until the moment when it is again possible to resume trolleybus services on our routes. This has already happened in 2022».
Trolleybuses and part of the infrastructure will be temporarily removed from the city to preserve the equipment and expensive infrastructure.
After the suspension of electric transport, other public transport will remain in the city:
-
bus routes will continue to operate
-
free shuttle services are planned
-
preferential transport will be provided to socially vulnerable residents.
Public transport in Sloviansk during the war: what happened earlier
A similar situation occurred at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia. Then the trolleybus movement in the city also had to be suspended due to the threat of hostilities.
Key events of that period:
-
trolleybus movement was stopped in July 2022
-
the reason was the approach of Russian troops to the city
-
the gradual resumption of transport operations began in November 2022.
Now the city authorities are again forced to suspend the operation of electric transport due to security concerns and the need for drone protection installation.
Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an interview to Sky News, where he opposed territorial concessions, stating that Sloviansk and Kramatorsk are "red lines".
