Doctor Faces Trial Over 12-Year-Old’s Death in Chernihiv Region: Alleged Medical Negligence
Indictment Filed Against Physician from Nizhyn District
According to Главком: A doctor from the Nizhyn district in the Chernihiv region is set to stand trial after her actions allegedly led to the death of a 12-year-old child. Prosecutors have charged her with failing to properly perform her professional duties, resulting in severe consequences. The child died from infectious-toxic shock, which developed due to inadequate diagnosis and treatment.
According to the investigation, in June 2025, the pediatrician failed to consider the full medical history of the patient. She diagnosed an acute infectious disease but misjudged its severity. Despite suspecting a serious bacterial infection, the doctor did not follow the mandatory protocol, which requires immediate hospitalization. Instead, she opted for a passive outpatient monitoring approach, preventing timely and appropriate care.
Child’s Death and Public Outcry
The indictment was submitted by the head of the Nizhyn District Prosecutor’s Office. The physician is accused of professional negligence that caused grave harm to a minor. This tragedy comes amid other recent cases where children died after medical procedures. For instance, a 12-year-old girl passed away following dental treatment in Uzhhorod, and in the capital, a seven-year-old boy suffered cardiac arrest after receiving anesthesia-despite a two-hour resuscitation attempt by an emergency medical team.
This incident has sparked serious public concern over the quality of pediatric healthcare services.
These fatalities underscore the urgent need for greater accountability among medical professionals and stricter standards in medical practice. It is critical to prevent such tragedies from recurring and to ensure patient safety, especially for the youngest and most vulnerable.
