Volodymyr Hakman died in battle for Donetsk: the story of a hero from Bukovina

Every day at 9 am, Ukrainians honor the memory of those who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today we remember soldier Volodymyr Hakman.

Volodymyr Hakman, known as Malok, died on March 15, 2024, near the village of Orlivka in Donetsk, where he served in the assault brigade as a sniper. He was only 26 years old. Before being drafted into the Armed Forces, he worked in agriculture and supported his family.

“Volodya was cheerful and hardworking. He always helped others. He was a wonderful son, father, and brother,” said his brother Ivan.

While performing a combat mission, Volodymyr sustained fatal injuries from artillery shelling. He was buried in his hometown. Unfortunately, the hero left behind an older and a younger child, parents, and a brother.

In memory of fallen soldiers and civilian victims in Ukraine, a nationwide moment of silence has been held. Candles of remembrance have been lit for all who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the country.

Ukrainians honor the memory of those fallen in war daily. Today we remembered Volodymyr Hakman, who served in the assault brigade and died during combat. His devotion, courage, and sacrifice will always remain in the memory of the country's citizens.
