The monument to Kuzma Skryabin has caused a scandal: residents criticized its likeness
Many Ukrainians expressed their disappointment, noting that the sculpture does not resemble Kuzma at all. Comments included words like 'horror', 'this is not Kuzma', 'how terrible', as well as accusations of the sculptor's unprofessionalism. Some even sarcastically remarked that 'they probably invited a sculptor from Mordor to make the monument'.
In the city of Korostyshiv in the Zhytomyr region, a monument was unveiled to the famous Ukrainian singer, musician, and leader of the band 'Skryabin', Andrii Kuzmenko (Kuzma). This event was highlighted as an important moment to honor the memory of the iconic artist, but it triggered a wave of criticism on social media due to the monument's appearance. This was reported by 'Glavkom'.
Other commentators were more restrained and emphasized that the idea of immortalizing the musician is good, but the work 'does not convey his character and energy'. There were also opinions that the artist who created the monument 'simply did not understand Kuzma'.
It should be noted that in Korostyshiv, on one of the alleys of the city park, a sculptural pedestal was opened in honor of Ukrainian musician and frontman of the band 'Skryabin', Andrii Kuzmenko. The event was timed to coincide with the celebration of City Day. This was reported by 'Glavkom' referring to 'Suspilne'.
The height of the composition is over ten meters. It is made of local granite. The pedestal bears the inscription: 'Do not be ashamed, this is your land'.
'I have been nurturing this idea for a long time. Because Kuzma is one of my favorite Ukrainian performers. I have been fascinated by his creativity since the 90s. He is not just a singer for me; he is a bearer of deep philosophical reflections on life, about Ukraine, about our place in the universe. Maybe for someone he is entertaining, but for me he is a serious and consistent fighter for our social and humanitarian ideals. He is like the Kobzar of modernity, a kind of enlightener', said Oleksii Markovskyi.
The sculptor also shared that when creating the image of Kuzma Skryabin in stone, he envisioned the Kobzar.
The monument to Andrii Kuzmenko in Korostyshiv surprised the public with its appearance, provoking a wave of criticism on social media. At the same time, the idea of erecting a sculpture in honor of the famous Ukrainian musician was recognized as an attempt to honor and acknowledge his contribution to the development of the country's culture.
