SOLiTHOR Unveils Its Solid-State Battery Innovation

According to НВ — Техно: On June 15, SOLiTHOR introduced its first demonstration solid-state battery cell, offering a 10 Ah capacity in a multi-layer pouch format. This new battery delivers impressive stack-level performance: 465 Wh/kg and 1400 Wh/L. The core technology relies on a Solid Composite Electrolyte, synthesized using the sol-gel method. Notably, no liquid is used in the assembly process, which could significantly streamline manufacturing steps.

Testing Results and Target Markets

Laboratory tests confirmed stable discharge at 5C under room temperature conditions. Additionally, short 30-second pulses at 10C with a 50% cell charge were successfully sustained. Cycling tests on 1 Ah cells showed that after more than 500 full cycles, residual capacity remains above 80%. These results highlight the new battery's high reliability and durability.

Safety tests, including overcharging and nail penetration, revealed no issues such as smoke, electrolyte leakage, thermal runaway, or fire. The battery production technology uses roll-to-roll processing, already implemented in most lithium-ion factories. By eliminating liquid electrolyte, the formation and aging stages are reduced, which the company estimates cuts cell manufacturing costs by about one quarter.

The initial target markets for SOLiTHOR's new batteries include:

  • aerospace
  • maritime transport
  • mobility
  • defense

This demonstrates the technology's potential across sectors demanding high energy efficiency and safety. SOLiTHOR's innovation is poised to become a major milestone in battery technology development.

The adoption of solid-state batteries holds significant promise for enhancing safety and efficiency in energy storage technologies, which is especially critical amid global efforts to reduce emissions and transition to more sustainable energy sources. Successful testing and the potential for lower production costs may also drive investment in this technology, accelerating its widespread deployment across various industries.

As the demand for safer and more efficient energy solutions grows, the recent advancements in battery technology are noteworthy. For instance, a new type of battery has been developed that reportedly lasts eight times longer than conventional models. This innovation not only enhances longevity but also prioritizes safety, making it a significant contender in the energy storage market.
