Operation 'Rubicon' in Kyiv Uncovers Lab Producing 40kg of Amphetamine Monthly
Kyiv Drug Ring Investigation Concludes
According to Главком: The Solomianska District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv has finalized its investigation and submitted an indictment to the court against six members of an organized criminal group involved in the production and distribution of amphetamine. The operation was allegedly masterminded by a 34-year-old Kyiv resident, with a clandestine drug lab set up in a private house within the Kyiv region. Law enforcement estimates the group manufactured approximately 40 kg of amphetamine per month, generating an estimated revenue of 20 million Ukrainian hryvnias.
Nationwide Sweep in 'Operation Rubicon'
As part of 'Operation Rubicon' conducted in February, authorities exposed several criminal groups specializing in the production and distribution of synthetic cathinones. During searches carried out in the capital and across 20 other regions of Ukraine, a total of 34 drug laboratories and 74 storage facilities were dismantled. The raids took place in the following oblasts:
- Vinnytsia
- Volyn
- Zhytomyr
- Zakarpattia
- Zaporizhzhia
- Ivano-Frankivsk
- Kyiv
- Kirovohrad
- Lviv
- Mykolaiv
- Odesa
- Poltava
- Rivne
- Sumy
- Ternopil
- Kharkiv

According to the press service of the capital's prosecutor's office, searches of the drug gang members' premises resulted in the seizure of over 3 kg of amphetamine, more than 13 kg of phenylnitropropene, 1.5 liters of sulfuric acid, along with laboratory equipment and other materials used for drug manufacturing. Two residents of the capital were reportedly earning over 500,000 hryvnias monthly from these psychotropic substances, highlighting the significant scale of their illicit enterprise. Synthetic drugs pose a growing global health threat due to their potency and unpredictable effects.
This case underscores the active efforts of Ukrainian law enforcement in combating drug-related crime, particularly amid rising threats from synthetic narcotics. 'Operation Rubicon' demonstrates a systematic approach to exposing and dismantling criminal networks, which could positively impact the reduction of drug dependency among the population. The importance of such measures requires sustained attention from both the state and society to ensure public safety.
