Home of Kyiv Opera Singer Destroyed in Massive Russian Strike on Capital
Artist’s Residence Hit in Nighttime Assault
According to Главком: Ukrainian opera singer Lyubov Ryzhenko, a performer with the Kyiv Opera, lost her home during a Russian attack on the capital on the night of June 15. The artist reported that her residence is now uninhabitable after windows and doors were destroyed, and the roof and attic are at risk of collapse. “Rain is already coming into the rooms,” Ryzhenko said. Despite the horrors of that night, she and her newborn son survived.
Scale of the Attack
The assault on June 15 was one of the largest combined strikes of the full-scale war, with Russia deploying 681 aerial attack assets, including various missile types and hundreds of drones. The damage extended beyond Ryzhenko’s home to neighboring residential buildings, including those of artist Sonia Morozyuk and blogger Marichka Dovbenko. Some nearby houses were completely destroyed, and a massive crater formed next to Ryzhenko’s property.
Given the situation, Lyubov Ryzhenko has appealed for help, stating:
‘Unfortunately, for the first time, I am asking for your help for myself. Let’s pool whatever we can to install all the windows. I won’t wait four months and drag things out until winter with a small child.’ - Lyubov Ryzhenko
She stressed that she cannot remain in a home that continues to deteriorate.
This attack serves as yet another reminder of the war’s devastating impact on civilians in Ukraine. The destruction of residential buildings and threats to personal safety not only undermine physical living conditions but also take a toll on people’s mental and emotional well-being. As the conflict rages on, Ryzhenko’s plea for assistance highlights the urgent need for solidarity and support among Ukrainians facing similar hardships.
