Study Explores the Benefits of Parent-Child Physical Activity
According to НВ — Техно: A small-scale study from Nottingham Trent University found that shared physical activities between parents and children can boost both physical health and cognitive function. The research involved 24 families, with 16 completing the full testing protocol. Participants followed a 45-minute non-contact rugby program, which included warm-ups and light games, designed to examine how exercise affects cognitive performance in both adults and children.
Before and after the session, participants took computer-based tests measuring working memory, attention, and information processing speed. Results were compared to baseline measurements taken at rest. After the active session, adults showed improved metabolic responses, requiring significantly less insulin after a meal to process food. In children, working memory scores improved post-exercise, while adults processed information faster. The cognitive boost in adults lasted at least 45 minutes after the activity ended.
Why Family Fitness Matters
The findings highlight the value of families engaging in sport together, as it not only strengthens physical health but also sharpens mental abilities. However, the results come from a limited sample, meaning further research is needed to confirm these effects. The study was published on June 22.
