U.S. Military Commitment in Europe

According to Главком: The United States has no plans to reduce its military forces in Europe, a commitment that comes as Poland and Lithuania actively prepare for potential security threats. This enduring presence is exemplified by a U.S. battalion-sized rotational combat group currently deployed in Lithuania. Approximately 70,000 American military personnel are stationed across Europe, with nearly half of that force based in Germany. This sustained deployment underscores the strategic importance of the region to transatlantic security.

Polish Reserves and Lithuanian War Games

In Poland, the Ministry of Defense has unveiled a plan to create a high-readiness reserve force, consisting of trained reservists, to enhance the nation's capacity for rapid mobilization. As Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated:

"Together with the professional army, the country could have up to 500,000 troops ready for a swift response" - Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

Separately, a military exercise was conducted in October 2026 by the Helmut Schmidt University War Gaming Center of the German Armed Forces. The scenario simulated a potential Russian invasion of Lithuania. Participants included 16 former high-ranking officials from Germany and NATO, legislators, and security experts. These preparations occur against a political backdrop where discussions about potential U.S. troop reductions emerged following proposals by former U.S. President Donald Trump for increased allied defense spending.

However, according to Robertas Kaupas, the U.S. Congress continues to support the Baltic Security Initiative. Lithuania is actively working on host-nation support measures and is in discussions about potentially expanding infrastructure to facilitate allied forces. High-level cooperation with American partners remains ongoing. The collective efforts, from permanent U.S. deployments to national reserve forces and multinational exercises, highlight the deepening integration among NATO allies and their shared commitment to collective defense in the face of contemporary challenges, particularly from Russia.
