According to Главком: The Kremlin has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, remain in contact with both Russia and Ukraine. However, the negotiation process concerning the war in Ukraine is currently paused. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, no specific date has been set for a visit by American representatives to Russia, and no phone call between Trump and Putin is planned.

Peskov also gave a negative assessment of the potential involvement of European nations in mediating the Ukraine conflict.

“Starting mediation efforts by presenting certain conditions to Russia hardly seems logical or correct. But more importantly, as we see it, Europeans are far more inclined toward prolonging the war than toward peace talks,” he stated.

Ukrainian President’s Meeting with U.S. Special Envoys

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with U.S. special envoys during a transit stop in Chișinău. During this meeting, the parties discussed:

• preparations for the G7 summit,
• prospects for a diplomatic resolution to the war,
• Russia’s position.

Meanwhile, the Russian side was not informed by American representatives about this discussion.

Contacts between U.S. negotiators and both parties continue through existing channels, but as Peskov noted, the mediation process regarding Ukraine is currently on pause.

The situation surrounding negotiations on the Ukraine conflict remains complex. The lack of progress in diplomatic efforts and the pause in the negotiation process indicate that resolving the conflict will require more time and effort from all participants.
