He stressed that the shipments will not be enough, and that deliveries in 2026 are expected to be smaller than in past years. Kyiv is therefore holding talks with European nations about additional supplies. The bilateral meeting underscored Ukraine's broader push to secure more air-defense assistance.

Zelensky underlined: 'Patriot interceptor missiles will be arriving from the United States on a monthly basis - that is our agreement.'

The Ukrainian leader also said his country is in active discussions with several partners, including Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, and the Scandinavian countries.

Zelensky also mentioned his earlier request to U.S. President Joe Biden for licenses to produce Patriot missiles locally. He said Japan and South Korea could potentially help Ukraine with air defense, but no assistance has come from them because of their own national laws. 'Did they help us with air defense during the war? No. Because of their domestic legislation, we received no help,' Zelensky said.

Zelensky added: 'We would be ready to buy Israeli air-defense systems, but that opportunity is not available yet, although we are in dialogue.'

Building Ukraine's Own Air-Defense Capabilities

Separately, Ukraine is working on its own antiballistic missile system, named Freya. The project involves FirePoint and one of Ukraine's state-owned companies, with Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Italy also participating.

The U.S. agreement to supply Patriot interceptors monthly is a significant step for Ukraine's defense amid the continuing conflict. However, with 2026 expected to bring reduced volumes, Kyiv will need stronger international cooperation to maintain steady weapons deliveries.
