Pakistan Hosts Renewed US-Iran Talks as Trump Warns of Bombings

US and Iran negotiations in Pakistan
Пакистан ініціює новий раунд переговорів між США та Іраном на тлі загроз збройних атак з боку Трампа.

US-Iran Negotiations Resume in Islamabad

According to Главком: Following a first round that ended without any agreement on April 12, the United States and Iran have resumed discussions in Pakistan. The second round of consultations is scheduled to take place in Islamabad with Pakistan acting as a mediator. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has already arrived in the capital, where he met with Pakistani officials, including his counterpart and the army’s chief of staff. A US logistics and security team is also present in Islamabad.

The initial round of talks failed to produce results due to disagreements over Tehran’s nuclear program. Iran did not provide guarantees that it would abandon efforts to develop nuclear weapons, which became the main obstacle to reaching a deal. Against this backdrop, US President Donald Trump extended a two-week ceasefire in the conflict with Iran, though Tehran did not acknowledge this decision. Trump warned of potential military escalation if the negotiations fail, stating:

“If the ceasefire ends without a result, numerous bombs will start exploding.” – Donald Trump

Iranian officials have indicated they are prepared to respond if the situation deteriorates. The resumption of talks in Pakistan reflects ongoing efforts by the international community to find ways to reduce tensions between the two countries.

Why These Talks Matter

The US-Iran negotiations in Islamabad represent a significant attempt to resolve a long-standing conflict that has persisted for many years, with potential major implications for regional stability. Pakistan’s role as a mediator highlights the importance of regional players in efforts to lower tensions and prevent military confrontation. A successful outcome could open new avenues for cooperation between the parties and improve relations on the international stage.
