He was born on June 16, 1984, in the village of Kozlyn, Rivne district. Melnyk attended Kozlyn and Kotiv secondary schools before qualifying as an electrician at the Rivne Professional Lyceum. He later worked for the fire service.
In 2021, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation. His funeral was held on March 7 at Independence Square in Rivne, followed by burial at the cemetery in his home village of Kozlyn. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, parents, and a sister.
Melnyk was known for his kindness and readiness to help others. As his wife noted,
“Petro was always smiling and helped everyone. He loved animals and cared for them. In his free time, he adored fishing and spending time in nature. His family was his greatest treasure – he always took care of his loved ones.”
