NABU and SAP uncovered a scheme to embezzle millions at Ukrzaliznytsia: who will be prosecuted

In 2021, NABU and SAP, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine, uncovered an organized group planning to steal money from the Ukrainian enterprise Ukrzaliznytsia. Four criminals, including the former head of one of Ukrzaliznytsia's divisions, devised a scheme that led to losses of 17.1 million hryvnias.

The former director helped certain companies win tenders for the repair of track machinery, involving both current and former employees in his intrigues. After payments for work that was actually not performed, the criminals forged documents to conceal their criminal activities.

To erase the traces of their criminal activities, the perpetrators forged documents indicating that these works were carried out by a number of firms exhibiting signs of being fictitious.

The trial against these four individuals will continue. The criminals face punishment for financial fraud and forgery of documents for the purpose of deception.

The case of the four defendants who attempted to fraudulently appropriate funds from the state enterprise Ukrzaliznytsia will be considered in court. For deception and the use of forged documents, the criminals face serious liability and punishment.
