Priest Orest Chorny passed away at a meeting in the Chernivtsi region
According to glavcom.ua: A tragedy unexpectedly occurred during training in the Chernivtsi region on November 29: priest Orest Chorny passed away, he was only 46 years old. This information was released with reference to the Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin of the UGCC, reports "Glavkom".
Orest Chorny, who was born in Lviv to a family of priests, held his last service on November 6, 2025, and was then mobilized to the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade. The cause of his death is still unknown.
Farewell to the priest took place at the Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin
On December 12, a farewell for Orest Chorny took place at the Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin. He is now buried at the Holoski Cemetery in sector No. 46.
Orest completed a 10-year school and entered the Monastery of the Redemptorists. He also studied at the Lviv Theological Academy and successfully obtained a theology diploma. For over 20 years, he preached peace and goodness in three parishes in Lviv within the framework of the UGCC.
Relatives remember Orest as a modest, polite, and very loving person. He had a wonderful tenor and sang daily in the church.
After the funeral of Orest Chorny, the well-known priest-blogger Oleksiy Filyuk received a summons. Earlier, he stressed his legal right to deferment from conscription to the front, as he raises two adult children and has two adopted.
The Ukrainian society has lost an outstanding figure – a priest who devoted his life to serving God and people, making a significant contribution to the religious and spiritual life of the nation. It is also important to note that even after the death of Orest Chorny, other priests continue to serve faithfully and inspire believers in their duties.
