Svitolina reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, crushing the world number three Gauff

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has reached the semifinals of the Australian Open for the first time in her career. In the quarterfinal match, she confidently defeated American Coco Gauff, who ranks third in the world. This is reported by the official website of the Australian Open. 

The match was under full control of the Ukrainian. In the first set, Svitolina broke her opponent's serve three times and won the set 6:1. In the second set, the scenario did not change - the Ukrainian again dominated on the court and sealed the match with a 6:2 victory, securing her place in the Grand Slam tournament semifinals.

Overall, this will be Svitolina's fourth Grand Slam semifinal in her career; she has previously reached this stage twice at Wimbledon and once at the US Open.

Svitolina became the second representative of Ukraine to reach the singles semifinals of the Australian Open. In 2024, Dayana Yastremska reached this stage. Additionally, there is a Ukrainian title in the doubles event in the tournament's history, won by the Bondarenko sisters in 2008.

Previously, Elina Svitolina defeated the Russian athlete Mira Andreyeva in the Round of 16 of the 2026 Australian Open and advanced to the quarterfinals.
