According to Федерація Легкої Атлетики: In Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, officials have unveiled the medals for the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026, scheduled for May 2-3. The launch coincides with the nation's 60th anniversary of independence. Crafted from natural diamonds mined locally in Botswana, these medals stand as a powerful emblem of national pride and craftsmanship.

The initiative was spearheaded by Okavango Diamond Company in partnership with the tournament's organizing committee. A sponsorship of 10 million pula-approximately 700,000 US dollars-funded the project. A total of 120 diamonds were polished for the medals, with all processing completed within Botswana's borders. Okavango Diamond Company also collaborated with Ankit Gems Botswana and SRK Export on this endeavor.
