Negotiations between Taiwan and the USA

According to Главком: Taiwan and the USA have reached a consensus on tariff negotiations, discussing the reduction of tariffs on exports to the USA. In December, the government of Taiwan expressed its intention to lower tariffs on exports to the USA from 20% to 15%. This decision has become part of broader trade negotiations between the countries that are nearing a deal.

The administration of US President Donald Trump is actively working on finalizing a trade agreement with Taiwan. As part of these agreements, TSMC has committed to build at least five new factories in Arizona, signaling a deepening economic cooperation between the states.

The tariff reduction agreement may be announced by the end of January, which is generating interest in the business circles of both countries. Additionally, President Trump previously announced economic restrictions on countries that collaborate with Iran. He noted that:

“any state doing business with Tehran will be required to pay a 25% tariff on all commercial transactions with the USA.” - Donald Trump

At the same time, the USA has decided not to impose additional tariffs on the import of Chinese semiconductors at least until mid-2027. These steps indicate the complexity of US trade relations with other countries, which may impact future negotiations with Taiwan.

Impact of tariff reductions on economic relations

Reducing tariffs on exports to the USA can significantly influence economic relations between Taiwan and the USA, as it will foster an increase in trade volume and investments. The situation also highlights Taiwan's importance as a strategic partner for the USA in Asia, particularly in the context of global trade challenges and tensions with China.

A successful conclusion of negotiations could be an important step for both countries in strengthening economic ties and adapting to the changing international landscape.
