The President of the United States Donald Trump stated that Cuba is in a critical condition, and Washington may intervene in the situation on the island. This writes Politico.

Trump and Cuba: what the US President stated

During a conversation with journalists at the White House, Trump said that Cuba is approaching decline. According to him, the country is facing serious problems after the cessation of support from Venezuela.

The President of the United States said:

«I think Cuba sees the end. I truly believe that I will have the honor to take Cuba».

He also added that the United States can act in any way:

  • intervention in internal processes

  • political or economic pressure

  • other forms of influence.

The situation in Cuba: why tensions are rising

Trump clarified that he is considering various scenarios, including «liberation» or actual control over the island. According to him, Cuba is currently a «very weakened nation».

Earlier, he also mentioned a possible «friendly takeover» of Cuba, indicating a strengthening rhetoric from the US.

The deterioration of the situation on the island is associated with Washington's actions regarding Venezuela. After pressure on Nicolás Maduro's regime, Cuba lost a significant portion of fuel supplies it had relied on for a long time.

This has led to a serious economic crisis, which is already being called the deepest since the collapse of the USSR. In the US, it is believed that events in Venezuela will further increase pressure on the Cuban authorities.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump expressed the prospect of a friendly takeover of Cuba.
