President Trump Comments on Death of Nurse Alex Pretty

According to Главком: President Donald Trump has addressed the death of nurse Alex Pretty, which occurred during a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid in Minneapolis. Expressing his condolences, Trump stated that

"everybody here thinks it's a very sad incident."

He also noted that the deceased was not supposed to be armed and voiced his displeasure that Pretty was carrying two fully loaded magazines.

The 'Catch of the Day' Operation and Its Aftermath

Alex Pretty's death took place against the backdrop of the 'Catch of the Day' operation, launched by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the state of Maine on January 22. The official goal of this operation is to locate foreigners with criminal backgrounds. In a related incident, an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Good, sparking mass protests in over 10 cities across the country.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from January 23 to 25, 39% of Americans approve of Trump's work on immigration, while 53% disapprove. These figures indicate a drop in support, as in February of last year, 50% of Americans expressed support for Trump's immigration policy, with 41% opposed. Trump noted that he had not heard his advisor Stephen Miller refer to Pretty as a terrorist or murderer, emphasizing that all parties involved consider the incident tragic.

This incident has generated significant public outcry and reflects the growing tension surrounding U.S. immigration policy. The deaths of both Alex Pretty and Renee Nicole Good highlight the risks associated with so-called 'military-style' operations conducted by immigration authorities, raising questions about their safety and human rights implications. The protests that erupted following these events mirror broader public dissatisfaction with the Trump administration's immigration stance. In this context, the decline in the President's approval rating pertains not only to immigration but to his overall policy agenda, which could impact his future tenure. The use of ICE for such high-profile enforcement actions remains a deeply polarizing issue in American politics.
