U.S. President Expresses Disappointment Over Iran's New Leadership

According to Главком: U.S. President Donald Trump has voiced his disappointment regarding the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's next Supreme Leader. He emphasized that this decision could lead to a repetition of the country's existing problems. Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was officially chosen for the position by Iran's Assembly of Experts following his father's death on February 28. Trump also confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of American and Israeli airstrikes. This leadership transition is a critical event for the Middle East, given Iran's regional influence and nuclear ambitions.

U.S. Stance and the Call for Diplomatic Engagement

In his remarks, Trump stated:

“I was disappointed because we believe this will lead to the same problem for the country repeating itself. So I was disappointed in their choice.”

He expressed a U.S. desire to be involved in the process of selecting Iran's new leader, declaring:

“We want to be involved.”

The President stressed the importance of appointing a president or head of state who could peacefully introduce diversity into Iran's politics.

Trump further underscored that the United States does not want to return every five or ten years to resolve these issues again, but instead seeks a president who will not lead the country into war.

  • “We believe they should appoint a president or head of state who can do something for diversity in a peaceful way.”

Consequently, the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei has become a topic of international discussion, with the U.S. position remaining actively engaged in the matter.

The selection of Mojtaba Khamenei could have significant implications for Iran's domestic and foreign policy. As the son of the former Supreme Leader, his rise may reinforce conservative trends within the nation. The reaction from the Trump administration indicates that Washington remains concerned about the situation in Iran and will attempt to maintain its influence in the region. This episode also highlights the ongoing importance of international diplomacy in resolving conflicts across the Middle East.
