Donald Trump's pressure on Volodymyr Zelensky

According to ХВИЛЯ: The administration of Donald Trump is pressuring Volodymyr Zelensky regarding a peace proposal that involves territorial concessions from Ukraine in exchange for American security guarantees. Zelensky needs time to consult with European allies, as the Trump administration has given him a few days to respond.

Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and advisor Jared Kushner pressed Zelensky during a two-hour phone call. Trump hopes to reach an agreement 'by Christmas'. Zelensky has reported that he is working 'very actively' on the components of the ceasefire agreement. Negotiations held in Miami lasted three days, with Ukraine represented by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of General Staff Andriy Hnatov.

Challenges of the negotiations and Zelensky's reaction

The initial American plan was shortened from 28 to 20 points, indicating some concessions from the United States. However, Zelensky expressed concerns about the European Union's abandonment of the 'reparations loan' plan for Ukraine. Trump also stated that Russia is currently in a stronger negotiating position, which could complicate achieving a compromise.

'Honestly, the Americans are looking for a compromise today,' said Volodymyr Zelensky.

In turn, Friedrich Merz emphasized that the 'coming days' could be crucial for all participants in the negotiations, adding that 'the fate of Ukraine is the fate of Europe.' Negotiators are eager to clarify how to strengthen efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

This situation highlights the complexity of diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, as pressure from the United States on Kyiv may not only influence Ukraine's internal politics but also change the balance of power in the region. European allies, having their own interests and concerns, may also play a key role in shaping the final decision regarding territorial concessions. Further actions by Zelensky and the reaction of the international community could significantly influence Ukraine's future in the context of stability and security in Europe.
