Trump demands territorial concessions from Ukraine: threatens deadline of November 28

Trump demands concessions from Ukraine
Трамп вимагає від України поступок щодо територій: ставить ультиматум до 28 листопада.

Appointment of a special representative and peace plan

President of the United States Donald Trump has appointed Dan Driscoll as his special representative for peace negotiations regarding Ukraine. Trump demands that Ukraine accept a 28-point peace plan that includes territorial concessions to Russia, specifically the cession of territories in Donbas and a reduction of the army. Next Thursday, November 28, Trump has set as the deadline for signing the agreement. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the country is experiencing one of the most challenging moments in its history, and Trump's plan has faced backlash in Ukraine and Europe.

Negative reaction and international situation

Kit Kellogg, who previously dealt with peace negotiation issues regarding Ukraine, may leave his position in January. In a phone call with U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance, Zelensky emphasized that pressure on Ukraine at the moment is one of the strongest. A delegation of American military officials led by Dan Driscoll has conducted negotiations with Zelensky in Kyiv, where the details of the peace plan were discussed.

Putin confirmed receipt of a copy of the American plan and considers it a basis for ending the war. The negative reaction to Trump's plan is noted both in Ukraine and Europe. Zelensky, commenting on the situation, stated that

“we did not betray Ukraine then (in 2022) and will not do so now”

- Volodymyr Zelensky. He also emphasized that if Ukraine simply surrenders to aggression, it only invites more aggression. Trump, for his part, stated that

“he should like it, and if he doesn't like it, then they should just continue to fight”

- Donald Trump.

The situation surrounding peace negotiations regarding Ukraine remains tense, given the strict requirements from the U.S., which raise concerns among Ukrainian leadership and European partners. The position of President Zelensky, who asserts that concessions may lead to further aggression, reflects Ukraine's deep concern regarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This underscores the complexity of international relations in the context of the ongoing conflict and potential peace initiatives that require a clear understanding of the consequences for all parties involved.
