The US President imposes a 25% tariff on Indian goods

On July 30, US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of a 25% tariff on goods from India, which will take effect on August 1, 2025.

In his message on social media, the American leader explained the decision by criticizing New Delhi's trade policy and its cooperation with Russia amid the war in Ukraine.

'Remember, although India is our friend, we have done relatively little business with them over the years because their tariffs are too high - among the highest in the world. They also have the toughest and most harmful non-monetary trade barriers of any country,' Trump stated.

The US President emphasized that India 'has always purchased the vast majority of its military equipment from Russia and is the largest buyer of Russian energy alongside China.'

According to Trump, 'India will therefore pay a tariff of 25%, plus a penalty for the aforementioned, starting from August 1.'

The US President's decision could significantly impact trade relations between the two countries and represent another step toward economic pressure on Russia's partners.

After criticizing India's trade policy and its cooperation with Russia, the US President decided to impose a 25% tariff on Indian goods, which may significantly affect international trade relations.
