US President Donald Trump stated that the war between the United States and Iran may be virtually over. Following this statement, global oil prices sharply decreased and dropped to approximately $90 per barrel. CBS News reports on this.

The US war with Iran may end soon

In a telephone interview with an American television channel, Trump stated that the military operation against Iran has achieved its goals.

«I think the war is practically over», — said the US president.

According to him, Iranian military forces have suffered significant losses and lost key capabilities.

In particular, Trump stated that Iran has effectively been left without essential military resources:

  • Naval forces significantly destroyed;

  • Communications systems lost;

  • Air force weakened;

  • A significant number of missiles and drones destroyed.

According to American military data, in the first week of the operation, the US struck more than 3,000 targets in Iranian territory.

The Strait of Hormuz affected global oil prices

One of the key factors in the situation has been the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of global oil supplies pass. Due to the conflict, commercial shipping in this area has temporarily nearly come to a halt.

Trump stated that the US could intervene if Iran attempts to block this strategic route.

«They have already used almost all their capabilities. If they do something bad, it could be the end for this country», — he said.

Initially, Trump suggested that the war could last about a month. However, according to him, the operation is progressing much faster than expected.

In light of these statements, oil prices in global markets began to decline, which partially calmed energy markets.

Let us remind you that the price of oil had risen to 110 dollars.
