Trump’s Stance on Ukraine’s Deep Strikes Into Russia Appears to Shift

Trump changes attitude towards Ukraine
Відступаючи від попередніх позицій, Трамп тепер демонструє новий підхід до українських дій у Росії.

Trump’s Changing Position on Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: During a NATO summit in Ankara, U.S. President Donald Trump did not criticize Ukraine’s strikes deep inside Russian territory-a shift that military expert Nico Lange considers significant. In an interview with BILD, Lange noted that Trump even smiled when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joked about avoiding a trip to Moscow due to the large number of Ukrainian drones operating there.

According to Lange, the United States is providing Ukraine with intelligence for these long-range strikes, including data on the locations of Russian air defense systems. He stated:

“From the conversation, it became clear that the U.S. is indeed assisting with at least some of the strikes Ukraine is carrying out deep inside Russia.”

Zelenskyy’s Strategy and the Possibility of a Ceasefire

Lange believes Zelenskyy is signaling to Trump that Ukraine is negotiating from a position of strength. He also highlighted that Zelenskyy is developing a plan to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin through attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure, weapons factories, and logistics:

  • Deep strikes into Russia targeting the energy system.

The expert argues that Putin will never engage in negotiations for a comprehensive peace deal, but a limited ceasefire could be achievable.

“Putin will never negotiate a major peace agreement. But a sectoral ceasefire-a very limited truce-is within reach, and Europeans should now support Zelenskyy in that effort.”

This apparent shift in Trump’s approach to U.S. support for Ukraine’s deep strikes may signal an evolution in American policy regarding the war in Ukraine, potentially boosting Kyiv’s confidence in its military strategy. At the same time, Zelenskyy’s plans to pressure Putin through energy infrastructure attacks reflect Ukraine’s readiness to take assertive action that could significantly alter the conflict’s trajectory. It remains crucial for the international community to continue backing Ukraine in these efforts, especially in pursuing a limited ceasefire to help stabilize the region.

This shift in Trump's perspective on Ukraine's military actions may be indicative of a broader change in U.S. policy towards the conflict. Interestingly, recent claims by Trump suggest that Putin is also seeking an end to the war, highlighting the complex dynamics at play in the region and the potential for new diplomatic developments.
