The two leaders arranged this meeting during a phone call on July 4, when Zelenskyy also congratulated Trump on the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence and expressed gratitude for the Patriot missile systems.

Trump is scheduled to arrive at the summit on Tuesday, July 7. His first engagement will be a conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Following his talks with Zelenskyy, Trump plans to meet separately with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. After completing these meetings, he will hold a press conference.

Frontline Stalemate and International Efforts

The frontline in Ukraine has remained largely static over the past several months. Trump intends to personally urge NATO allies to boost their defense spending. Billions of dollars in defense agreements are expected to be announced during the summit. After meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump is likely to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin. On Saturday, July 4, Trump held a 90-minute phone call with Putin, during which he offered assistance in finding a resolution to the war.

Last month, Zelenskyy proposed a face-to-face meeting with Putin, but the Kremlin rejected the offer. Moscow insists that any settlement must include full Russian control over Donbas, while Kyiv rejects this demand. Notably, the summit unfolds amid disagreements among allies over funding for Ukraine. Italy is seeking to soften language about commitments to support Kyiv through the end of next year, while Poland is pushing for financing to expand the Alliance's fuel pipelines in Eastern Europe.
