Transport Collapse in Kyiv: Koretsky Ordered to Urgently Restore Metro Service

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky intervened in the situation regarding the transport collapse in Kyiv and ordered to urgently ensure the normal operation of the metro. The problem has worsened due to prolonged air raid alerts, which have already redirected 140 buses to routes that duplicate the metro. This was reported by Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky.

Koretsky Ordered to Restore Metro Operations in Kyiv

On the evening of September 7, the Prime Minister held an urgent meeting with government representatives and the capital's authorities. The main topic was the operation of public transport amid prolonged air threats.

«I held an urgent meeting with government officials and representatives of the city authorities regarding the transport collapse in Kyiv. I instructed to immediately ensure the proper functioning of the metro according to the decisions made by the government so that people could get home normally,» stated Koretsky.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the decisions made must take into account the current security situation. This primarily concerns the preservation of transport connections between the districts of the capital during prolonged alerts.

The problem is particularly acute for connections between the banks of the Dnieper. Restrictions on the operation of open sections of the subway increase the load on buses, stops, and roadways. As a result, a new metro operation mode during alerts has already been approved in Kyiv.

How Transport in Kyiv Will Change from September 10

New rules are set to come into effect on September 10. Under a yellow level of air threat, the green Syretsko-Pecherska metro line will operate without restrictions, including transporting passengers across the Southern Bridge between the left and right banks.

Under a red level of threat, the green line will be divided into two sections: «Syrets» — «Vydubychi» and «Slavutych» — «Chervonyi Khutor». The red Svyatoshyn-Brodyarska line will operate underground from «Akademmistechko» to «Arsenalna» during the threat.

At the same time, the city is changing the night transport operating mode. Public transport will operate one hour longer, and for train passengers arriving late, four bus routes will be available from the Central Railway Station during the curfew.

These changes are intended to reduce the load on surface transport and decrease passenger congestion at stops. This is especially important for Kyiv during prolonged alerts when metro restrictions simultaneously cause traffic jams and complicate connections between banks.

It should be noted that from September 10, the curfew in the capital will also be shortened: it will last from 01:00 to 05:00, instead of midnight.
