Key Domestic Developments in Ukraine
Alongside the international diplomacy, several important domestic events unfolded in Ukraine:
- The High Anti-Corruption Court ordered the arrest of former Minister of Justice and Energy, Herman Galushchenko. The court set an alternative of 200 million Ukrainian hryvnias in bail, valid for 60 days.
- The Kyiv Court of Appeal reduced the bail for former judge Oleksiy Tandyr from approximately 120 million hryvnias to 20 million hryvnias. He is accused in a fatal traffic accident that killed National Guardsman Vadym Bondarenko.
- In the technology sector, a new phase of Starlink terminal registration has launched in Ukraine. Individuals can verify their terminals at branches of Nova Poshta or Ukrposhta. One device per person can be registered remotely, with applications processed within 48 hours.
- Kyiv police have completed a pre-trial investigation into a head of a department at the Kyiv City State Administration, who has been charged in connection with an overpayment to a supplier for generators. The overpayment for these 2023 procurements amounted to 4.8 million hryvnias; the official is 53 years old.
The Geneva negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia mark a critical stage in diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region. The focus on practical matters may indicate the parties' intent to seek compromise under difficult circumstances. Concurrently, other events in Ukraine, including the arrests of high-ranking officials and news from the tech sector, highlight the continuation of internal reforms and anti-corruption measures. These domestic processes are crucial for the country's development and its standing on the international stage.
