Consultations on a possible ceasefire in Berlin
According to ХВИЛЯ: On December 14, consultations regarding a possible ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia took place in Berlin. The meeting included German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, and a delegation from the USA, consisting of Special Envoy Steve Vitkoff and President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. The main negotiator from the Ukrainian side was Rustem Umerov.
The agenda of the meeting discussed the conditions for a possible ceasefire, particularly its implementation along the current front line. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of Ukraine's security, stating:
"I am already in Germany. Today's agenda includes a meeting with the American negotiating team. We are focused on how to reliably guarantee Ukraine's security." - Volodymyr Zelensky
European Union sanctions against Russia
Additionally, new sanctions from the European Union against Russia were discussed during the negotiations. Foreign ministers of EU countries plan to approve a new sanctions package, which includes:
- freezing assets;
- a ban on around 40 tankers entering European ports.
Heads of state are also participating in these discussions, including Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, and Dick Schoof, who emphasized:
"No decisions regarding Ukraine without Ukrainians." - Dick Schoof
The next meeting is scheduled for December 15, indicating a continuation of diplomatic efforts toward achieving peace in the region.
