In Vinnytsia, at the end of July - beginning of August, a test phase of traffic reorganization on Soborna Street will commence. The project involves reducing the number of parking spaces, prioritizing public transportation, and creating new transfer hubs. This was reported during the presentation of the project «Improving the quality and efficiency of urban public transport in the center of Vinnytsia», which is being implemented with the support of the German program NAKOPA, writes Vinnytsia News.

Traffic on Soborna in Vinnytsia will change already in August 2026

Officials explain that the transport system of Vinnytsia is operating almost at its capacity limits due to the rapid increase in the number of private vehicles.

According to the director of the Department of Transport and Urban Mobility Andrii Sorokin, since 2018, the number of passenger cars in the city has almost tripled. Currently, there are over 107 thousand registered cars in Vinnytsia.

The official emphasized that the historical buildings in the central part of the city do not allow for significant road expansion, and increasing the number of lanes only temporarily reduces traffic jams.

Therefore, the city plans to prioritize public transport to make it faster and more predictable for passengers.

Parking spaces on Soborna will be reduced due to traffic jams and accidents

According to transport studies, during the morning rush hour, more than 103 units of public transport pass through Soborna every hour, carrying almost 5 thousand passengers.

At the same time, more than 1.5 thousand private vehicles also travel on this street. Soborna hosts 28 out of 48 city routes, as well as trams No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6, so any traffic jams or accidents significantly affect the entire transport system of the city.

Another reason for the reorganization is accident rates. According to the patrol police, since 2021, there have been 235 road accidents on Soborna, of which 33 involved injuries, and another 27 were related to pedestrian collisions.

City authorities hope that the test changes will make public transport movement more stable and the central part of Vinnytsia safer for all road users.

It is worth noting that in Vinnytsia, the fare for public transport is proposed to be raised as of August 1.
