In Chernihiv, five bus routes may cease operation from June 1. The carrier claims a critical financial situation and blames the city military administration for blocking compensation payments. This is reported by Suspilne Chernihiv.

Which routes may disappear in Chernihiv

These are bus routes No. 24/24A, No. 25/25A, and No. 33, serviced by the company «Travel Express».

The director of the enterprise, Volodymyr Luhovyi, stated that due to debts, the company might run out of fuel and will not be able to send transport out on the lines.

According to him, in April alone, the carrier did not receive compensation of over 5 million hryvnias.

«We are completely in debt. If payment is not unblocked, we will simply stop receiving fuel», — explained Luhovyi.

Why the conflict around transport arose

The carrier asserts that it has repeatedly contacted the transport department of the city council; however, the issue of compensation depends on the Chernihiv military administration.

The transport department confirmed receipt of a letter regarding the possible cessation of operation of the routes and stated that they are still studying the situation.

The conflict around public transport in Chernihiv has been ongoing for several months. Back in February, carriers warned about the unprofitability of operations and demanded a revision of tariffs.

According to Luhovyi, the enterprise transports up to 10,000 beneficiaries daily, and the compensations for these transportation services do not cover the enterprise's real expenses.
