In Chernihiv, from October 3, fares for buses and trolleybuses will increase

Starting from October 3, passengers in Chernihiv will pay more for rides on buses and trolleybuses. The most expensive option will be cash payment, while the transport card will remain the most cost-effective choice. Similar changes in other cities of Ukraine have already affected transportation costs. This is reported by the transport department of the Chernihiv City Council.

New fares for rides in Chernihiv starting October 3

Rides on the buses will cost 15 UAH when paying with a transport card, 17 UAH with a bank card, and 20 UAH in cash. Fares for trolleybuses will be 12, 15, and 18 UAH, respectively.

The difference between payment by transport card and cash will reach 5 UAH in buses and 6 UAH in trolleybuses. For passengers who travel regularly, the choice of payment method will significantly impact monthly expenses. Similar fares are already in effect in other cities: for instance, prices have changed in Kropyvnytskyi for buses and trolleybuses.

How much students and privileged passengers will pay in Chernihiv

For students of general secondary education institutions in Chernihiv, a fare of 8 UAH per ride on buses or trolleybuses has been established. To use it, students must pay with a student transport card and have their student ID with them.

Benefits for all categories of passengers entitled to them will remain. They can be used according to current regulations.

How a transport card can help save on rides

The transport department advises making cashless payments. The transport card allows for savings on each ride, and transfers within 30 minutes remain available.

«If you make two rides a day over 22 working days, the transport card will allow you to save compared to cash payment: in a bus — 220 UAH a month, in a trolleybus — 264 UAH a month», — the department noted.

The possibility of increasing the cost of bus rides in Chernihiv was discussed back in November 2025. At that time, a fare of 17 UAH for cash payment was discussed, but the price change for trolleybuses was not raised. The situation with bus transport in the city also remains challenging: previously, no carriers were found for several routes.
