In Chernivtsi, they plan to reduce the fare for buses starting from August 1
In Chernivtsi, preparations are underway to revise the fare for city buses. If the executive committee supports the relevant draft decision, from August 1, the cost of a single ride will decrease from 20 to 19 hryvnias. The reason for this change is the reduction in fuel prices, which is the largest component of the fare. This is reported by the Chernivtsi City Council.
Fare for travel in Chernivtsi from August 1: proposed tariffs
The published draft decision stipulates that travel on city buses will cost 19 hryvnias instead of the current 20.
For students during the academic year, excluding weekends and holidays, a tariff of 9 hryvnias instead of 10 is proposed.
The final decision on the new tariffs is to be made by the executive committee of the Chernivtsi City Council at the meeting on July 28.
Why Chernivtsi is revising the fare
The city council explains that the basis for decreasing the fare is the reduction in fuel prices. Previously, the increase in fuel prices was the main reason for several fare hikes.
Currently, the trolleybus management, which services part of the bus routes, is required to constantly monitor fuel prices. If prices drop by more than 10%, the company must prepare a new fare calculation within ten days.
This is already the third revision of the travel fare in Chernivtsi since the beginning of the year. From March 16, a temporary tariff of 17 hryvnias instead of 15 was in effect, and from April 20, the fare rose to 20 hryvnias due to a significant increase in fuel prices. According to the city council, fuel costs account for nearly 40% of the fare structure, so any change in its price directly affects transportation costs.
It is worth noting that from June 8, changes to the operation of public transport began to take effect in Chernivtsi. Due to the end of the academic year and a seasonal decrease in the number of passengers, the municipal enterprise reduced the number of buses and trolleybuses on several city routes.
