High-profile solidarity visit to Kyiv

Sybiha stressed that Ukraine’s independence has never been an abstract idea, and that it has been defended through every hardship. In such times, he said, nations realize how much it means to have allies by their side - and today, Ukraine knows exactly who its true friends are.

Meanwhile, a planned visit to Ukraine by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, special representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump, has been postponed rather than canceled. According to Radio Free Europe journalist Alex Raufoglu, the trip was delayed because of the intensified missile and drone strikes on Kyiv last week. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the two U.S. envoys could arrive in the capital within the next two weeks.

Kyiv had already seen a wave of foreign officials in the days before the anniversary. On 23 August, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda arrived in the capital, along with leaders from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia and Norway. A day earlier, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul also visited. The successive high-level trips underscore international support for Ukraine’s fight for independence and territorial integrity.
