Massive Blackout Hits Donetsk and DPR Cities Following Power Plant Strike
Blackout in Donetsk and Across the DPR
According to Главком: In the early hours of June 29, a widespread power outage struck occupied Donetsk and other cities within the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). The blackout is attributed to an attack on the Starobesheve Thermal Power Plant. Several localities, including Mariupol, Novoazovsk, Volnovakha, Telmanove, and parts of Donetsk, experienced partial power loss. While some residents reported hearing no explosions, drone activity was detected over the occupied territory.
Electricity began to return to Donetsk, but the situation remained difficult in many areas. Mariupol-based propaganda Telegram channels reported:
“Starobesheve municipal district – attack by enemy FP-2 drones. Don’t forget to charge your mobile devices and gadgets to 100%.”
This highlights the ongoing threat from unmanned aerial vehicles. It is also worth noting prior drone strikes in the Luhansk region. On the night of June 13, drones struck occupied Luhansk Oblast, with explosions heard in Alchevsk. Earlier, on June 5, attack drones hit an oil depot in Luhansk, sparking a massive fire. Impacts were recorded in occupied Donetsk, Vuhlehirsk, and the Mariupol area, with the oil depot strike occurring at 60 Rudneva Street in the southern districts of Luhansk.
Escalation of Military Operations
The region remains tense, and residents continue to monitor developments closely.
The power outages across multiple settlements in Donetsk Oblast signal an escalation of hostilities in occupied territories. Drone attacks, now a recurring feature, demonstrate ongoing enemy activity and underscore that critical infrastructure-especially energy facilities-remains vulnerable. These events could severely impact daily life for local residents, who must adapt to shifting conditions and persistent threats.
The recent power outages in Donetsk are just the latest in a series of escalating military actions in the region. The impact of drone strikes on critical infrastructure has left many residents facing increased uncertainty and disruption in their daily lives. As tensions rise, understanding the broader context of these attacks is essential for grasping the ongoing challenges faced by the local population.
