In Khmelnytskyi on February 24, six new trolleybuses were presented, four of which have autonomous drive. Starting from February 25, part of the transport will be launched in test mode on the extended route No. 8, which connects the Hrechany neighborhood with the city center. This is reported by Suspilne Khmelnytskyi.

The director of the communal enterprise 'Electrotrans', Serhii Bobukh, announced that route No. 8 has been extended to stops on Shukhevych Street, 125 and 125a. The first trip will depart at 7:05. During peak hours, the interval will be about 22 minutes, and in off-peak times – approximately 33 minutes.

New trolleybuses with autonomous drive will operate in test mode

Four vehicles are equipped with an autonomous drive with a range of up to 20 kilometers. This allows them to operate without a contact network on certain sections.

The trolleybuses are equipped with:

  • video surveillance systems

  • air conditioning and ventilation

  • thermal buttons for door opening

  • multimedia screens

  • automatic passenger counting sensors

  • USB sockets

The transport is also adapted for people with disabilities.

The transport renovation project in Khmelnytskyi is financed by the EU and EBRD

The mayor, Oleksandr Symchyshyn, noted that within the cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Union, the city will receive 44 trolleybuses. Currently, 36 units are already in Khmelnytskyi.

The project financing includes:

  • 4.45 million euros in grant funds from the European Union

  • over 1 million euros from the city budget

  • around 10 million euros in loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

In addition to purchasing transport, modernization of depots and updating stops are planned. The last eight trolleybuses are expected to be delivered by the end of March 2026.

It is reminded that in Khmelnytskyi public transport is gradually switching to exclusively electronic fare payment.
