Kyiv Imposes Limits on Heavy Vehicles Due to High Temperatures

According to Главком: Authorities in Kyiv have restricted heavy truck traffic after temperatures climbed above +28°C. The temporary ban applies to vehicles weighing over 24 tons or those with an axle load exceeding 7 tons. The decision was made by 'Kyivavtodor', and road signs and information boards are already in place to notify drivers of the new rules.

The restrictions will be adjusted based on temperature changes. Drivers of heavy vehicles can wait out the heat at designated parking areas. The ban does not apply to vehicles transporting:

  • dangerous goods;
  • perishable items;
  • live animals and poultry;
  • military or humanitarian cargo.

In emergencies, vehicles involved in prevention or response efforts are also allowed to operate.

Nationwide Impact

Similar measures are being implemented across other regions of Ukraine, reflecting a coordinated strategy to maintain road safety during extreme heat. On June 22, a 50-year-old man in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district collapsed due to 30°C heat, underscoring the urgency of such actions.

These restrictions in Kyiv are part of broader efforts to protect road surfaces and enhance safety for all users during heatwaves. By monitoring temperature trends, authorities can quickly adapt traffic rules to changing conditions, reducing the risk of accidents and infrastructure damage.

As the heatwave continues to impact various regions, seasonal restrictions on truck traffic are being enforced across Ukraine to safeguard road infrastructure. These measures not only aim to protect the surface quality but also ensure the safety of all road users during extreme temperatures. Understanding the broader implications of these regulations is essential for drivers and transport companies alike.
