The proposal to rename 8 metro stations in Kyiv
According to hvylya.net: A petition has been filed in Kyiv to rename as many as 8 metro stations. The proposal is based on local history, geographical landmarks, and the desire to avoid Soviet associations.
This proposal has been put forward, guided by local history, geographical landmarks, and the avoidance of Soviet or undesirable associations.
Among the proposed changes are the following:
- 'Darnytsia' to 'Children's World' - due to the presence of a large shopping and entertainment center nearby.
- 'Chervonoarmiyska' to 'Kyoto Park' - in honor of the Japanese park in this area.
- 'Lesna' to 'Brovary' - as a reference to the city of Brovary.
- 'Minsk' to 'Pogonia' - to discard associations with Belarus.
- Taras Shevchenko to 'Podilska' - for variety in the names of places dedicated to the Kobzar.
- And other changes.
Currently, only 43 people have signed the petition, which may lead to its obscurity. We remind you that there are plans to demolish a shopping center in downtown Kyiv and construct a high-rise building that exceeds the norm by twice.
The petition to rename metro stations in Kyiv may highlight the desire of local residents to update names associated with the city's history and geography. However, the small number of signatories may make this initiative unlikely to be realized.
