A new PTS trolleybus with a range of up to 70 km from a manufacturer in Brovary was presented in Kyiv
The updated PTS T12309 trolleybus produced by the Brovary company «Politekhnoservis» was presented in Kyiv. The vehicle features a new design, cameras instead of mirrors, and a combined battery for autonomous operation. Earlier, the capital already received PTS trolleybuses. The innovations of the model are reported by AutoCentre.
What has changed in the PTS T12309 trolleybus in Kyiv
The updated model was showcased from October 13 to 15 at the international exhibition «CommunTech-2026» at the capital's IEC. The body is still manufactured by the Turkish company Akia, and the exterior design has been enhanced with modern LED lighting at the front and rear.
Among the noticeable changes in the interior and design of the trolleybus:
-
cameras have been installed instead of traditional external mirrors;
-
the exterior design of the body has been updated;
-
the autonomous power supply system has been changed;
-
new solutions for energy storage and use have been applied.
Previously, there was already a discussion in Kyiv about the updating of the trolleybus fleet. The presented model also belongs to the family of PTS T12309, but its key innovations relate to the battery and autonomous operation.

How the battery of the new trolleybus will work
The main technical change is hidden from passengers. The trolleybus received a new converter and a combined battery with two types of batteries: NMC and LTO.
According to the publication, NMC batteries serve as a stabilizing power source, while LTO batteries store energy from the regenerative braking of the traction motor. This combination is expected to increase the lifespan of the batteries by 50 to 100%.
It is anticipated that the autonomous range will increase from 20-30 up to 70 kilometers without contact networks. This feature could be beneficial in areas where there are no trolleybus wires or when there are interruptions in the operation of electric transport. Information about other changes in the operation of Kyiv's electric transport has been published separately by the city.
