Private carriers in Kyiv plan to review the cost of minibus rides starting from August 1. On most routes, the fare may rise from 20 to 25 UAH, while on routes where passengers paid 10 UAH, the new price is set at 20 UAH. This is reported by TSN.

The head of the Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast Transport Association, Ihor Moiseenko, announced the possible increase. According to him, carriers had to make a final decision on July 30.

The guidelines for passengers are as follows:

  • minibuses with a fare of 20 UAH may raise the price to 25 UAH;
  • routes with a fare of 10 UAH may increase to 20 UAH.

This specifically concerns private minibuses. They set their own fares, so the new price may not take effect on all routes at the same time. Passengers are advised to check announcements in the cabins or the carrier's information.

Reasons why private carriers in Kyiv want to increase fares

In the Transport Association, the main reasons cited include rising fuel prices, a shortage of drivers, and a lack of workers for the maintenance and servicing of buses. According to Moiseenko, due to staffing issues, some transport is idle in garages.

Carriers also mention more complicated conditions for hiring drivers. They believe that raising fares will help retain workers and partially compensate for fuel and maintenance costs.

How the new minibus fare is related to public transport

Since July 15, a single trip on public transport in Kyiv costs 30 UAH. At the same time, the city authorities have provided a lower fare for passengers who purchase tickets in bulk or use passes. This is confirmed by the official Kyiv portal.

Private minibuses are not part of the tariff system of Kyivpastrans or the metro. Therefore, their prices depend on the decisions of specific companies, rather than on the orders of the Kyiv City State Administration. If the increase is approved, a minibus fare of 25 UAH will cost 5 UAH less than a single trip on public transport.

It is worth noting that a petition has been registered in Kyiv demanding to prohibit private carriers from operating buses that do not meet Euro-6 environmental standards.
