Heroic Dogs of Ukraine: How Malinois and Shepherds Detained Hundreds of Offenders
According to МВС: In Kyiv, the third ceremonial recognition of service dogs-heroes of Ukraine took place. Specially trained dogs from the State Border Guard Service and the National Guard help every day in searching for prohibited items such as weapons, drugs, and explosives. They monitor areas during drone launches, guard foreign delegations, and assist military personnel in overcoming post-traumatic stress disorder.
During the recognition ceremony, notable distinctions were awarded:
Nick (breed - Malinois) and his handler Igor Zhohno (SBGS) were recognized for protecting Mykolaiv during the period of Russian aggression. Thanks to their efforts, over 50 illegal border crossings were detained.
Gerda (Malinois) and her handler Serhiy Vlasov (NGU, 'Kara-Dag' brigade) were recognized for detecting 18,000 rounds of ammunition, 127 automatic rifles, and over 15 kg of explosives, becoming a real threat to saboteurs.
Sandy (German Shepherd) and her handler Serhiy Sistriak (NGU) received awards for finding 19,000 rounds of ammunition, hundreds of grenades, and dozens of kilograms of dangerous weapons, highlighting their expertise in searching for prohibited items.
