Kyiv’s Oldest Stone House Reopens as a Revamped Museum
Updated Exhibition at the 'Kyiv Mayor’s Stone House' Museum
According to Главком: A newly refreshed exhibition has launched at the 'Kyiv Mayor’s Stone House' museum, located at 6/8 Kostiantynivska Street in Kyiv. This building is the capital’s oldest surviving residential stone house, built in the late 17th century in the Ukrainian Baroque style. It stands as one of only two preserved examples of 17th-century civilian residential architecture in Kyiv, the other being the current building of the Hetmanate Museum.
The renovated display explores the role of the mayor (viit) in city life and highlights the continuity of Kyiv’s self-governance traditions. According to a statement from the State Historical and Architectural Reserve 'Ancient Kyiv,' shared by the publication Glavcom, this project demonstrates that even during wartime, Kyiv continues to invest in preserving cultural memory and creating modern museum spaces.
Exhibition Project 'Path of Heroes: In Memory of Symon Petliura'
Additionally, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine has opened an exhibition titled 'Path of Heroes: In Memory of Symon Petliura,' marking the 100th anniversary of his death. Symon Petliura was a prominent statesman, military leader, and politician who served as head of the Directorate of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and as Supreme Commander of its army. This exhibition underscores the significance of his contributions to Ukraine’s history and honors the legacy of a key figure in the nation’s state-building efforts.
The launch of these new exhibitions at Kyiv’s museums reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to preserving its cultural heritage, even in challenging times. It reinforces the importance of remembering historical figures and events that have shaped Ukraine’s national identity. By participating in such initiatives, cultural institutions not only enrich their museum spaces but also help raise public awareness of the country’s history and traditions.
In addition to the reopening of the 'Kyiv Mayor’s Stone House' museum, the city is also honoring significant historical figures with exhibitions like the one dedicated to Symon Petliura. This commemorative exhibition at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine highlights Petliura's vital role in the nation's history, reflecting the ongoing efforts to preserve Ukraine's cultural legacy during these challenging times.
