Trains on the "green" line of the metro in Kyiv are once again transporting passengers on the above-ground section through the Southern Bridge during the yellow threat level. Movement was restored on October 4 after checking the tracks and infrastructure. This has restored direct connections between the banks and reduced the need for transfers to surface transport. Earlier, the movement was halted after an attack on the Southern Bridge. This was reported by Kyiv24 citing KP "Kyiv Metro".

How the green line of the Kyiv metro operates from October 4

Before resuming passenger movement, specialists conducted checks, and test trains ran on the above-ground section in both directions. This allowed for an assessment of the condition of the tracks and infrastructure before launching regular service.

During the yellow threat level, trains operate between the right and left banks of the Dnipro via the Southern Bridge. If a red level is announced, surface movement will be halted, and the "green" line will be divided into two routes: "Syrets" - "Vydubychi" and "Osokorky" - "Chervonyi Khutir".

Restoring direct connections is crucial for passengers who travel daily between the residential areas on both banks. When trains do not cross the bridge, people have to look for alternative routes, increasing travel time and pressure on buses. What the Kyiv metro will do during a red threat level

The restoration of movement does not mean that trains will continuously operate on the above-ground section under any circumstances. The operation mode depends on the threat level, and announcements about changes will be made in the carriages and at the stations. Passengers are advised to follow the messages and heed the instructions of metro staff.

The Southern Bridge was previously closed after Russian drone strikes, which damaged structural elements and the protective cover of the metro. At that time, the above-ground section of the "green" line was temporarily halted to check its safety. The article explains how the metro operates under different levels of danger about the metro operation mode during alarms.
