According to Прокуратура Київ: In Kyiv, a Toyota Camry driver has become a suspect in a fatal traffic accident that occurred at a regulated pedestrian crossing. According to law enforcement officials, a 22-year-old electric scooter rider, who was moving on a green light, died at the scene of the accident. The 23-year-old driver of the car, at the time of the incident, was passing through a red light while activating the hazard lights and continued to move into the third lane.
The event occurred at a pedestrian crossing where the movement of electric transport is prohibited. The Toyota Camry driver has been notified of suspicion under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for violating traffic rules that resulted in the death of the victim. The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office is guiding the proceedings and requested the court to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention. However, the court decided to impose house arrest around the clock.
Situation and Consequences
The prosecution is appealing this decision and is also requesting to deprive the suspect of the right to drive vehicles. It is known that the suspect has repeatedly been held administratively responsible for speeding. For committing a fatal traffic accident, the legislation provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 8 years.
