Teenagers Arrested for Torching Tesla Cars in Kyiv

According to Главком: Two individuals have been arrested in Kyiv for setting fire to three Tesla vehicles on behalf of Russian intelligence services. The suspects, a 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy, have been formally charged. Under Ukrainian law, they face up to 10 years in prison for the crimes, which were committed in the Svyatoshynskyi district. The arson attacks were coordinated through a messenger app following instructions from an agent of the hostile intelligence service.

The arrests were made under Article 208 of Ukraine's Criminal Procedure Code, with charges filed under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code. According to investigators, the perpetrators were promised a reward of $2,000 USD for the arson, but only $20 was actually transferred to them.

Material evidence linking the suspects to the crime was seized during searches of their properties. Law enforcement is now searching for other possible accomplices who may be involved in similar acts. In a related case, the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has also charged two residents of the Kirovohrad region for setting fire to a Porsche Cayenne in January 2025. Additionally, a 22-year-old Kyiv resident has been detained on suspicion of torching a car under orders from Russian intelligence.

Russian Intelligence Operations Undermine Ukrainian Security

This series of arson attacks in the Ukrainian capital highlights the ongoing activity of hostile elements seeking to destabilize the country. Law enforcement agencies continue their work to identify and detain individuals involved in such crimes.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of Russian intelligence activity on Ukrainian territory, which, according to authorities, aims to create instability through various acts of vandalism. The recruitment of young people, likely influenced by external actors, underscores the need for enhanced security measures and counter-terrorism efforts. These cases illustrate a concerning tactic of using vulnerable individuals to carry out destructive acts within Ukrainian cities.
