According to Главком: On June 17, emergency restoration efforts continue on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. These operations follow a massive fire triggered by a heavy enemy attack on the capital. According to the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv, more than 100 rescue personnel and 24 units of specialized equipment are involved. A powerful drying unit has been deployed inside the cathedral to remove moisture from the interiors.
Attack Damage and Losses
The assault also struck residential buildings in Kyiv's Pechersk, Obolon, and Solomianskyi districts. In Pechersk District, a direct hit destroyed a five-story apartment building. In Obolon District, a residential building suffered structural damage between the third and fourth floors. In Solomianskyi District, a nine-story apartment building was hit.
Additionally, the attack sparked a fire at the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio, destroying Ukraine's largest and oldest costume collection. The studio housed approximately 100,000 costumes and three million clothing items. The fire also damaged other studio buildings and facilities.
Notably, sacred relics and liturgical items from the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra were evacuated before the major fire broke out. Rescue services continue to manage the situation and are actively working to restore damaged sites.
